Associate Professor Matthew Brown was recently selected as the 2023 winner of the African Literature Association’s First Book Award.
The award recognizes his book Indirect Subjects: Nollywood’s Local Address, which the ALA committee found to be “a theoretically dextrous, field-changing study in African cultural studies” linking colonial cinema, Nigerian state television, and Nollywood, “thereby making connections between imperial values and contemporary film and video culture.”
Congratulations on this exciting achievement, Matt!
