Matthew H. Brown is Assistant Professor of African Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin‐Madison. His research relies on a range of cultural forms, including television, film, video, literary fiction, popular music, and popular fiction. His book, Indirect Subjects: Nollywood’s Local Address, was published by Duke University Press in 2021. Currently, Brown is working on two monographs, a cultural history of media literacies in Africa and a study of contemporary representations of global poverty. Brown’s work has appeared in the Journal of African Cultural Studies, the Journal of African Cinemas, Black Camera, the Cambridge Journal of Postcolonial Literature Inquiry, and the Global South.
