Doctor Thompson Earns Award

Hongera Sana to Professor Katrina Daly Thompson! Professor Thompson has been awarded First Prize in the 2016 Ethnographic Fiction and Creative Nonfiction Writing Competition, sponsored by the Society for Humanistic Anthropology.  Her piece, titled “Secrets of a Swahili Marriage,” earned a $100 prize.

The ethnographic fiction piece is about an American anthropologist’s experience of infertility and eventual pregnancy within a marriage to a Swahili man.  It explores the intersections and disjuctures between what we can know about another culture through research and what we learn through intimate relationships.

Professor Thompson’s work will be honored at The Society for Humanistic Anthropology’s Awards Ceremony, held in November at the American Anthropological Association Meeting in Minneapolis, MN.

A list of winners and their stories will also be posted on the Society for Humanistic Anthropology website.
