We are saddened to announce the passing of Hazel Carter, Professor Emerita, African Languages and Literature, on August 3. An accomplished linguist who studied both Kongo and Shona, she was chair from 1992 until 1995 when she retired. She was in the department for 15 years.
Our condolences to the entire Carter family. Please let us all take solace in Hazel’s long service of significant contributions to the department as scholar and teacher of African languages.
