Omotola Okunlola

Omotola Okunlola earned her PhD in African Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2026. She is now an Assistant Professor of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota. Her research spans African and Black feminisms, popular culture, literary studies, and gender studies. Her dissertation examined the intersections of feminism and gendered bodies in African women’s literary and filmic production.

She holds BA and MA degrees in English from Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. In 2018, she was a Fulbright Scholar in the Department of African Cultural Studies at UW–Madison.
