Mwita Muniko

Mwita Muniko earned his PhD in African Cultural Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2024, with an MA in the same field and a BA in Swahili Language and Literature from Moi University in Kenya. He is now a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Africana Studies at Oklahoma State University.

His research uses autoethnography and personal narratives to examine how language shapes, produces, and negotiates discourses of gender and sexuality in post‑colonial African contexts. He is particularly interested in how local and global discourses influence contemporary Black masculinity. Grounded in decolonial and transnational feminist methodologies, his work approaches the self as both an epistemological locus and a site of social justice activism.
