
Luigi Muci is a PhD student in the Department of African Cultural Studies. He is particularly interested in the origins and evolution of vernacular ‘Krio’ theatre in Sierra Leone in the first three decades of independence and the socio-political ramifications of postcolonial theatre in a historical context. He is also generally interested in questions of postcolonial nation-building and the role of expressive cultures in shaping national identity in West African contexts and beyond. He has previously published in the International Journal of African Historical Studies. He holds a BA in History from University College London and an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford. He has worked for two years in Burundi and Uganda in educational research roles before joining UW-Madison. He is originally from Italy but lived several years in Kenya and Sierra Leone in his formative years.
