Laila Eissa is a PhD candidate and Arabic instructor in the Department of African Cultural Studies. She is from Egypt and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Education from Ain Shams University. In May 2025, she earned her Master’s degree in Second Language Teaching at Utah State University. Her current research focuses on the motivation behind university students’ decisions to continue learning Arabic, French, and German. She is interested in second language acquisition, and innovative teaching methods.
Laila is also passionate about Arabic literature and Egyptian cinema, which she aims to incorporate into her future research. Her research interests combine language education with cultural studies. In 2022–2023, she was a Fulbright FLTA at the University of Utah, where she taught Arabic.
