AI4Afrika is an applied research project guided by the African Studies Program, the Computer Science Department, and the Data Science Institute at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Our goal is to create responsible, equitable, and accessible AI technologies.

We are working on machine translation models that can translate between English and Twi, a Ghanaian language, and a chatbot model that can answer health-related questions. This presentation aims to explain machine learning, deep learning, and how such language models work at a higher level.
