African 703: Communicative Lesson Planning

Dr. Katrina Daly Thompson

1 credit

How can we help our students achieve communicative competence in the languages we teach? What is communicative competence anyway? How can we create lessons that actively help students achieve it? Through readings, critical reflection, discussion, and practice, students in this course will address these questions, learn how to create engaging lesson plans, and increase opportunities for students to use a second language for communicative, contextualized purposes.

This course fulfills 1 out of 3 required credits in pedagogy for MA students in our department, and all TAs of an African language (even if not graduate students in our department) must take it at least once. It can be repeated when the topic changes.
